California Southern University was established in the state of California in 1978 for the purpose of meeting the educational needs of working adults who could not attend traditional educational institutions due to professional, personal, or financial constraints. CalSouthern recognized that work, personal obligations, and lack of accessibility created an obstacle that prevented degree seeking adults from realizing their dreams.
CalSouthern responded to this need by providing access to a high quality education through distance and online learning. From initial offerings at the associate degree level, CalSouthern expanded to Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral degrees taught entirely through distance learning methodologies. Students from all over the world who are interested in pursuing degrees in business, psychology, liberal arts and law enroll at CalSouthern.
The mission of California Southern University is to provide high quality, undergraduate and graduate degree programs to adult students throughout the world using an online education system. Educational Objectives
During one’s course of study at California Southern University, each student is expected to:
- Demonstrate mastery of the specific subject matter in the student’s area of study.
- Access, evaluate, and utilize information accurately and appropriately.
- Integrate knowledge and principles of the specific area of study for use in a practical/professional setting.
- Communicate facts and ideas clearly and express well-reasoned conclusions.
- Conduct research utilizing a variety of resources and media.
- Demonstrate organizational and time-management skills through fulfillment of course and degree requirements.

The University was founded in 1978, originally under the name Southern California University for Professional Studies, and has been continuously approved by the State of California to offer undergraduate and graduate level degrees.
California Southern University is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council. The Accrediting Commission is listed by the U.S. Department of Education as a nationally recognized accrediting agency and is a recognized member of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
