Our exceptional Faculty Mentors are managers, administrators, consultants, educators, advisors, practitioners, and professionals in their respective fields. They are drawn from industry, business, mental health, and the academic community to assist our students in reaching their educational objectives. They are selected for their interest in promoting self-learning, professional expertise, real-world experience, academic background, and ability to communicate their knowledge and experience to our students.

Our programs are designed to encourage success and develop lifelong learning patterns. Therefore, interaction between faculty and students is an integral part of the University’s process.

A Faculty Mentor is assigned each time you enroll in a course so you have access to an academic specialist in the field.

Faculty Mentors will guide you through each course by phone, email, and through the CalSouthern Learning Center.

Accomplishments Outside of the University
Dr. Allen has been a Licensed Clinical Psychologist since 1976. He has had extensive training is such fields as Ericksonian Hypnosis, Gestalt Psychotherapy, and Biofeedback, among others.

He was in private practice from 1976 – 1994, first as an individual practitioner and then with his wife, created Pomona Valley Psychological Center which was a mutil-faceted facility serving San Gabriel Valley residents. Therapeutic services were provided on an outpatient and inpatient basis. All ages, from single to multi-family, were accepted for therapy including biofeedback, group and medical referrals to two on staff psychiatrists. This successful adventure caused our staff to grow to 17, which included Marriage and Family therapists (MFT), Licensed Clinical Social Therapists (LCSW), Biofeedback Therapists (BFT), licensed Clinical Psychologists (LP) and Psychiatrists.

Mentor Bio
After some time off for medical reasons he is back with CalSouthern and is energetically working with Learners who would like to “find their potential and place in life.” He believes in life long education and goes by this wonderful thought from an unknown author.

Victoria Bloom, M.S.

Accomplishments Outside of the University
Victoria Bloom is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist. In addition to being a founding member of the faculty at CalSouthern, Dr. Bloom has a private practice in Irvine, California . She specializes in the treatment of depression, anxiety and trauma, parenting challenges and attachment problems and treats adults, couples and adolescents. She is certified in hypnosis and EMDR and has had extensive training and experience in the area of psychological testing and assessment. She worked for many years at inpatient psychiatric facilities running groups for both adults and adolescents.

Mentor Bio
Her interests include homeschooling her 5-year-old and 8-year-old daughters, horseback riding, gardening, reading and traveling.

Barbara Denny, M.S.W.

Barbara Denny has been a faculty/mentor with the University for many years. She helped develop the Bachelors program in Psychology as well as many of the graduate-level courses in the program In addition to her mentoring, she has a private pratice specializing in relationship problems, eating disorders, job stress and uses clinical hypnosis for stress, pain control, sleep disorders and habit modification. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and is certified in Clinical Hypnotherapy. Her professional affiliations include membership in the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, National Association of Social Workers, Employee Assistance Professional Association and the Los Angeles Academy of Clinical Hypnosis.

Barbara loves to travel, especially internationally. She has enjoyed a safari in Africa as well as hiking through France.

Stacie Dilts-Harryman, Ph.D.

Accomplishments Outside of the University
Dr. Dilts-Harryman is a licensed professional counselor in the state of Wyoming; she also holds certification from the National Board of Certified Counselors as a Nationally Certified Counselor. Dr. “DH” is the founding member of Defining Moments Counseling & Holistic Wellness Center and practices traditional counseling while incorporating a variety of holistic modalities into her sessions. She is an accomplished public speaker, returning yearly as a featured speaker at the Wyoming Counseling Association Conference, the Wyoming Women’s Expo, as well as the New Earth Productions Holistic Fair. She also speaks at various levels for conferences and meetings throughout the United States. Additionally, she hosted a bi-monthly TV show on mental health and the mind/body connection and was editor for a natural health magazine. Prior to moving into private practice, Dr. DH was a teacher/instructor as various educational levels. This includes being a teacher and counselor at the junior high and high school levels; an instructor for Hutchinson Community College, Hutchinson, KS and Western Nebraska Community College, Scottsbluff, NE; an instructor and administrator for Cranford Business College, Hutchinson, KS an instructor for Sterling College, Sterling, KS, and an online instructor for Axia University.

Gia is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a background in education. She taught at California State University, San Bernardino, earning an award for Outstanding Lecturer. As a therapist, she has worked with both the Department of Behavioral Health and the Department of Probation in San Bernardino County. She is passionate about empowering the underserved.

Mentor Bio
Gia enjoys both watching and playing sports. She is also active in her church community using her skills to encourage others. Gia is currently providing individual therapy to emancipated foster care youth with United Friends of the Children (UFC). She is grateful to be part of a team whose vision is to prepare foster youth for a future that works.

I am an avid scuba (cave)diver and love to travel. I play guitar and sing in a professional choir. I played Basketball and Volleyball for the Army team and was an Olympic hopeful in the Discus throw in track (Broke my hip, so I didn't get to go). I spent 7 years in the Army, 7 years as a Firefighter/Paramedic, two years as a Police Officer before finishing my Ph.D. with NorthCentral University. I live in North Florida where all the world class Caves are for Diving. My goal is to see as many of you be a success here at CalSouthern.

Dr. Johnson-Nguyen is a Clinical Psychologist and has been licensed since 2004. She has worked in an array of clinical settings, which include a community mental health clinic, a foster family agency, a group/private practice, a non-public school, and on the adolescent unit of a psychiatric hospital. Dr. Johnson-Nguyen’s clinical experiences at those settings include the treatment of children, adolescents, adults, and families.

She has conducted both individual and group therapy sessions. In addition, Dr. Johnson-Nguyen has administered psychological assessments in a mental health clinic and psychiatric hospital setting. She currently has a private practice and offers supervision and guidance to behavioral consultants who are providing services to adults with mental and physical challenges.

Dr. Johnson-Nguyen married her high school sweetheart in 2004 and is the mother of two beautiful children, ages two and four. She enjoys reading, traveling with her family, and exposing her children to new things.

I got my B.A. from Columbia College in creative writing/journalism. My M.A. is in Communications from Governors State University. I returned to school in mid-life to pursue a PhD in psychology with an emphasis in both clinical and research psychology. I graduated from Saybrook Graduate School and Research Center with a degree in psychology, with an emphasis in consciousness and spirituality.
I teach psychology at Northcentral University, California Southern University, University of Phoenix, and Saybrook Graduate School and Research Center, where I am the Interim Co-Director of the Dream Studies Certificate Program. In the 1970s, after completing my M.A. I taught a course on Parapsychology and Communication at Governors State University and Central College.
I began keeping a dream journal 35 years ago and am a founding member of a Chicago area dream group, which has been in existence for ten years. I am a runner, yoga practitioner, and meditator, attending Buddhist retreats at least twice a year. I also enjoy documentaries and reading fiction, particularity historical fiction, and non-fiction.

Dr. Tracy Mallett is the Clinical Director of Florida Family Options, Inc (www.family-options.com ). She is a Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, a Florida State Supreme Court Certified Family Mediator, and a certified instructor in Safe Crisis Management. She is a member of the American Psychological Association, a Clinical Member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, and a member of the Florida Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. She has been working with forensic mental health clients for over 12 years.

Dr. Mallett also works contractually as a lead editor for The Write Company, (www.the-write-company.com ), a professional writing and editing organization.

Previously, Dr. Mallett has provided group psychotherapy to male, female and juvenile sexual offenders through the MDSO (Mentally Disordered Sexual Offender) program at Alliance for Psychological Services. At Florida Family Options, she provides facilitation and therapist supervision of psychoeducational programs in parenting education, anger control, theft intervention, and substance abuse intervention. Dr. Mallett is the site coordinator for the state-certified Batterer’s Intervention Program at Florida Family Options. As a certified domestic violence treatment group facilitator, and assessor, she has provided group therapy to individuals struggling with domestic violence issues. She is involved in the court system by providing clinical services to substance abusing clients, as well as providing family reunification services.

Dr. Mallett also supervises the sexual trauma and sexual misconduct programs at Florida Family Options, where she facilitates and supervises services for sexual offenders, sexual addicts, and sexual assault survivors.

Dr. Mallett began her career in mental health by working with children and families who had been separated due to abuse and neglect issues. She worked with children placed out of their homes of origin in several locations, and also served as residential staff trainer in Safe Crisis Management.

Dr. Mallett has extensive experience working with families and children in the foster care system in several states. She has provided in-home therapy to children struggling with behavioral and developmental problems, and offered strengths-based family support and therapeutic intervention to their foster families. She also conducted intake evaluations and conducted pre-placement home studies.

Patrick McKiernan, Ph.D.

Accomplishments Outside of the University
I started working as an alcohol and other drug counselor in 1983. Over the years, I have enjoyed working with a variety populations including adolescents, pregnant women and women with children, criminal justice clients, clients HIV/AIDS, and those with sever and persistent mental illness. For 16 years I worked for Volunteer of America of Kentucky Directing the Alchola and Other Drug Community and Mental Health Services. In this position, I had the opportunity to develop programs, train counselors, and continue my professional development. It really was a great time of my life. Currently, I work for the Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs coordinating services and developing programs for homeless veterans with substance abuse and mental health problems. This position has given me the opportunity to work in government, which is very different from the Non-Profit world. In addition, I have an appointment to the University of Louisville Graduate Faculty, teach courses for the Kent School of Social Work, and Co-Direct the Alcohol and Drug Counselor Specialization. In 2004 I received an appointment to the Kentucky Board for the Certification of Alcohol and Drug Counselors.

Mentor Bio
Educationally, I have had some great experiences. I graduated from University of Louisville with a Bachelors of Science in Guidance and Counseling. This program was excellent however has since been phased out and replaced with a similar Masters degree. My first venture in distance education came by way of a scholarship to Nova Southeastern University where I received a Masters of Sciences in Applied Addiction Studies. At first I had my doubts about the program matching the quality of the traditional classroom, however once classes started, I soon discovered the incredible advantages over the traditional educational methods. A year after I graduated from NSU a friend who is ABD told me about Northcentral University. In 2004 I graduated from NCU with a PhD in Psychology.

In August of 1992, I married my wife Robin. We have two children and enjoy swimming, taking trips, and taking walks through the neighborhood. I am an avid basketball fan and regularly play to get exercise and have fun. We live in great community called the Highlands that has excellent schools, arts, and great neighbors.

I am sports fan and enjoy physical activities like swimming, basketball, biking, and hiking. I also enjoy sending time with family and friends talking or playing games. I have a 20 bed recovery focused facility for men which is my passion. My dream is to expand this facility so I can serve up to 200 individuals. My second passion is teaching at the University level.

Dr. Muchnick received her Ph.D. in Marital and Family Counseling from St. Louis University. As a dual licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Mental Health Counselor for over thirty years, she has divided her time between therapy and education. Dr. Muchnick has extensive experience in teaching and training graduate mental health learners in both distance and traditional learning environments. As the director of the Counseling Center for Contemporary Living, Dr. Muchnick has developed programs, supervised therapists, and provided therapy for individuals, couples, and families.
Her wide range of expertise and interests are reflected in the scope of workshops and seminars she has presented at state and national professional meetings, they include: Adventures in Leadership Training, Training Primary Healthcare Counselors, Re-storying Illness: Multiple Family Groups for Chronic Illness, Rewriting Stories: Narrative Therapy Approaches, Ethical Dilemmas: The Illusion of Black and White, Gender Talk: Changing Roles of Men and Women, Celebrating Our Past, Present, and Future: Family Diversity. Two grad degrees from UCLA (EdD/MBA), and two from San Diego State University(MA and BE); Charter member of National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology; Family/Group therapy specialization, but behav mod, et al - important to me too (you do what fits best). Psychology instructor at 5 on-ground Calif. universities (I.e., UCLA, UCSB, CSPP/Charter, LA State, et al) - after teaching 2-92 years olds and various special groups(So.Cal); have loved studying foreign languages/4, and cultures/40 having traveled or lived in about 40 different countries by now and am far from done yet.

Recently 3 years living in New Zealand, then 3+ years living in Shanghai, PR of China, trying to learn Mandarin while teaching 3 psychology courses at Shanghai Jiao Tong University/CE as Adjunct Faculty, and consulting to corporations. A few private families in treatment there - as, while it is much needed - language and culture can be major barriers .The Expat community there is the main source of referrals and it is growing daily - all languages spoken. Through years of personal experience and a decade of discussing intrapersonal and interpersonal difficulties with clients in Canada and the United States, Dr. Nickerson understands the detrimental effects of a depleted self-image, detachment from self, lack of empowerment, and overwhelming stress. She has developed innovative strategies for achieving personal mastery, success, and improved productivity for both individuals and corporations.

Dr. Nickerson has had a long-standing interest and knowledge in the processes of both life mastery through personal development, and with maintaining work environments that feed the soul and excite employee participation. Dr. Nickerson's interventions are designed to enhance and promote a sense of empowerment, motivation, a core sense of identity and purpose, authenticity, self-image, and emotional and spiritual well being. Trained in Pre-Med and Clinical Psychology for my BS and MS degrees, my PhD applied personality, social, and cognitive psychology with computer science (cognitive science) to the area of business, using econometric modeling and artificial intelligence techniques to predict consumer purchase behavior.
Most consulting has been in marketing and management. Currently practicing in clinical psychology and working as a consultant for many international corporations. I also volunteer on community radio and do a talk-back like the TV character Frasier to help those who cannot afford therapy.

Mentor Bio
Dr. Nadira Pardo has held the position of Full Professor of Psychology and Business at several universities throughout the world. She is a former university Dean and Vice President and has published over 150 books, articles and consulting reports in her career. She has taught online since 1991 and helped establish some of the first online doctoral and masters programs in the world. She has taught at some of the world's leading universities including University of Memphis, Queens University in Canada, Wharton, Singapore Management University, University of Texas, and Eurasia National University.
She has practiced as a Clinical Psychologist, Counsellor, and Therapist in several countries, and currently has residences in the US, Canada, Kazakhstan, China and Australia. She has been trained in 12 languages, has worked in over 32 countries, and continues to advise governments (including cabinet members and ministries of finance, transport, sport, and education) as well as members of the British Royal family and the Royal family of Saudi Arabia. She applies psychology to business and has consulted for FORTUNE 500 companies including General Motors, SATURN, Cadillac, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Buick, Chevrolet, Federal Express, Citibank, Whirlpool, Litton, McDonalds and Wrigleys. She has conducted research for the US military and human factors laboratories for major corporations, and has also developed econometric models for corporations using neural network analysis based upon psychological principles and methods. Her training in Pre-Med and research in bio and neuropsycholoogy has helped advance the links to cognitive psychology that formed the bases for therapies of the 80's and 90's that are still prevalent today.

She is pleased to be working for Cal Southern and enjoys Mentoring Learners from all over the world, taking a personal interest in each Learner and providing personal contact details for a 24/7 availability, regardless of her travel schedule or current residence.

He enjoys writing, playing the piano, computer work such as programming and website design, and spending time with his family. Dr. Jon Rich received his BA from the University of California, San Diego, his MA from San Diego State University, and his Ph.D. from the California School of Professional Psychology. He is a member of the American Psychological Association, and has been licensed as a psychologist since 1987. He has worked as a psychologist for the Texas Department of Corrections and for the Orange County Health Care Agency. He currently maintains a private practice in southern California, specializing in psychological testing. He was a lecturer in the Counseling Department at California State University, Fullerton from 1990 to 1997. He provides contracted consultation services to the Quality Improvement and Program Compliance Division of the Orange County Health Care Agency.

Dr. Enid Richey is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, as well a founding member of the faculty at CalSouthern. She has been licensed and in private practice in Rancho Cucamonga, California, since 1986. Dr. Richey is certified by the American Psychological Association College of Professional Studies and by the National Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors in the treatment of psychoactive substance abuse disorders. She is also qualified by the Department of Transportation as a Substance Abuse Professional. In addition, Dr. Richey holds certifications from The American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress and by The National Association of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapists.

Since 2001, Dr. Richey has been heavily involved with the rescue, rehabilitation and placement of lost and abandoned Golden Retrievers and Labrador Retrievers in Southern California. "There is no psychiatrist in the world like a puppy licking your face."

Dr. Salvucci has over 29 years in the behavioral health field. She has worked in a variety of different settings, including state institutions, prisons, hospitals, private agencies, community mental health agencies, and addictions treatment centers. She has held a variety of positions, such as Detoxification Technician, Crisis Therapist, Primary Therapist, Clinical Director and Program Director. She has also written a home study and has provided Consultant Services.

Dr. Salvucci holds a BA in Psychology from Drake University, an MA in Psychology and Counseling from Goddard College in Plainfield, Vermont, and a PhD in Psychology with a specialization in Clinical from Capella University. In addition, Dr Salvucci has completed postdoctoral training in Clinical Psychopharmacology from Fairleigh Dickinson University and also been trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

Dr. Salvucci enjoys hiking, deep sea fishing, and traveling in her spare time.

Kim Stanton has collectively been a general and special educator in psychiatric and correctional facilities for over 31 years. At the community college and university levels, he taught such disciplines as education, psychology, and sociology as well as anthropology. Further, Mr. Stanton published a variety of educational articles, as well as submitted book reviews for the Assistant Superintendent for the Orange County Department of Education. He earned his B.A. in psychology and sociology from the University of Miami in 1976, followed by graduate and post-graduate degrees in education and psychology at Nova Southeastern University. Mr. Stanton has been teaching a variety of psychology and social science courses for CalSouthern the better part of 20 years. He has two adult children in college. The Stanton family resides in California.

Roy served as an associate director for a youth program in Florida. One of his responsibilities was working with kids who had run afoul of the law. Over the years, Roy taught on the University and college level. He eventually rose to the rank of full professor. Roy also directed a residential facility for boys with behavioral problems. Today, Roy teaches and is also developing a website on behavioral medicine. Roy does private consulting, and serves as an expert witness on behalf of the Social Security Administration.

Dr. Tanimura has been a Licensed Clinical Psychologist since 2007. Her clinical experience consists of therapeutic treatment and assessment of children, adolescents, and adults, peer supervision for assessment cases, and conducting trainings for staff as well as parent trainings. Christine has worked in a variety of settings, which include private practice, a non-profit community agency, a non-public school, Headstart, an outpatient and inpatient psychiatric medical center, and a maternity group home, assisting clients from various multicultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. She recently worked at a private non-profit community agency (Airport Marina Counseling Service), where she developed the psychological testing program as well as provided supervision to interns, conducted trainings, administered psychological tests, provided psychotherapy to families, conducted intakes, and coordinated intern trainings. Additionally, she has worked as an Adjunct Faculty at Antioch University, in which she has taught Personality II, Assessment and Treatment Planning, Psychological Testing, and Child and Adolescent Development classes.

Stephanie has enjoyed her years of work in the field as a therapist. From battered women and homeless adults on the west coast, to teens and families on the east coast, her experience is vast.

She worked with a Juvenile Offender Program supporting families and teens as the teens returned back to their communities from residential treatment facilities. She worked in a treatment facility and enjoyed group therapy work with teen boys that even included team building skills while on a ropes course.

Stephanie more recently has worked at a Family Center that had programs supporting teen moms, Foster families and children, as well as court ordered clients.

From Sex Education to intense Anger Management therapy, each family and client always proves to have unique needs. Stephanie finds this exciting, challenging, and ultimately, very rewarding.

Stephanie loves learning in life and continues her own education and personal growth as a wife and mother. She is passionate about taking care of the earth and does her part to learn how we can all do more each day! Eating right and getting enough sleep are area's that Stephanie strides to improve in her family. She also loves to take new classes at the gym to stay healthy!

Kickboxing and soccer are her new favorite sports for exercise, and swimming with her children is where you can find her on a hot California weekend!
