SS 1220 - Women, Culture and Society: Study of Gender
This course in an introduction to the study of women and gender; it is an analysis of culture and society from a feminist perspective. The course focuses on a multi-disciplinary understanding of women’s lives and will address gender, race, class, sexuality, ability, and nationality.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Describe the different styles of methods Women's Studies researchers use.
  • Examine the current views of evolution and sexual differentiation.
  • Summarize the cognitive-Developmental Theories on gender development.
  • Define the hierarchies of oppression in the commonality and difference among women.
  • Discuss the historical perspectives on women's education.
  • Analyze the relationship between gender roles and women's health.
  • Explain the religious teachings about women and gender.
  • Explain the impact that the media has on gender and sexuality.
  • Examine gender norms in government, law, and public policy.
  • Introduce self and explain course expectations.
  • Integrate the course concepts through interaction with other Learners and your Mentor.
  • Access information efficiently and effectively.
  • Evaluate information critically and competently.
  • Practices ethical behavior in regard to information and information technology.
