This course explores the addiction and co-occurring disorders of the current Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. The focus of the study is on primary and secondary differential analysis, assessment, intervention, and treatment. Behavioral addictions (e.g., gambling, food, pornography, shopping, and sex) are compared and contrasted with substance-related addiction. Learners will gain an understanding of how active participation in both negatively impacts the lives of individual and families. Previous graduate coursework in substance-related disorders and behavioral addiction is recommended.Learning Outcomes:
