CalSouthern’s Master Lecture Series continues to grow—in terms of the breadth of topics covered and the series’ global reach, as well as in the prestige and influence of its lecturers. A perfect example of this occurred in late November, when more than 200 learners, alumni, faculty and members of the psychology community—from dozens of countries around the world—gathered virtually and on campus for a presentation by the renowned therapist and author, Dr. Sue Johnson.
Dr. Johnson, best-selling author of Hold Me Tight, Seven Conversations for a Lifetime of Love, among other books and publications, is the founder of emotionally focused couple therapy (EFT), which has demonstrated its effectiveness in more than 25 years of peer-reviewed clinical research. Her lecture, “The New Science of Romantic Love: What You Understand, You Can Shape,” was delivered via Skype from her home in Ottawa, Canada, and live-streamed to a worldwide audience. After the lecture, CalSouthern staff facilitated an engaging question-and-answer section.
It was an exceptionally compelling lecture, informative and delivered with warmth and humor. Moreover, it was a fascinating study in how technology can connect the global CalSouthern community with leaders in the field—wherever they may be located.
