Financial Expert John H. Mitchell Enters Race for Supervisor of Lansing Township, Michigan
John H. Mitchell, a 2008 graduate of California Southern University’s School of Law, has announced his candidacy for the office of Supervisor of Lansing Township, Michigan. Mitchell is founder and president of the Mitchell Financial Group, and has specialized in managing the financial issues of small businesses for more than 14 years. He previously owned and operated an environmental consulting firm which specialized in government contracts.
Mitchell is confident that his experience in finance and in contract negotiation makes him uniquely qualified for the office of Township Supervisor.
“A Township Supervisor is the presiding and chief executive official of the board of trustees. With the high number of foreclosures and job loss in Michigan and the Township, elected officials must take firm positions in negotiations with third parties that can save businesses and the individual taxpayer money,” Mitchell says. “The fiscal policies and concerns of the Lansing Township citizens will always be number-one on my list of issues.”
Mitchell has a long history of public service. He has served as a member of the Lansing Township Trustee Board, the Lansing Chamber of Commerce’s Diversity and Legislative Committees, and the Marketing and Diversity committees for Waverly Community Schools. He also serves as a math tutor to elementary school children in the Waverly and Lansing School Districts.
Mitchell graduated from Michigan State University with a BS in business management and packaging engineering. He began the study of law at Thomas M. Cooley Law School before enrolling at CalSouthern, earning his JD in 2008.
“CalSouthern refreshed me with new ideas and new ways of thinking that have proven very helpful in my new career path,” says Mitchell. “Returning to and graduating from law school after so many years gave me the additional confidence I needed and allowed me to prove to myself that the ‘gray matter’ still could function at a high level.
“Regarding my political campaign, voters and media in this area have said that I am more than qualified for office I seek because of my education and background. I use my law training at every board of trustee meeting and with the 501(c)3 of which I am treasurer. I am able and qualified to perform contract reviews and title search information analysis, and help draft new legislation for the Township, because of the degree from CalSouthern.”
CalSouthern congratulates John on his outstanding career and exemplary service record—and wishes him the best of luck in his campaign.
