Can you guess CalSouthern’s fastest-growing degree program for 2013? The answer may surprise you. It’s the Doctor of Business Administration. The DBA has nearly doubled its enrollment in the past eight months.
The reasons for the growth are as varied as the backgrounds of the business professionals that comprise the DBA student body. The DBA has a broader scope than many business doctoral programs, giving students more of a 30,000-foot-view of today’s business world, rather than focusing in more narrowly on a niche like marketing, finance or management. However, at the end of the program, students can focus their studies and develop expertise on a particular business topic of interest when completing their doctoral project. It’s a combination that our students really enjoy.
They also appreciate the practicality of the degree. Unlike other business degrees such as the PhD, which emphasize theory, research and scholarly publication, the DBA—from its curriculum to the teaching methodology—is designed to help students learn to apply theory in order to solve some of today’s most pressing business challenges.
Recently, CalSouthern Founder Dr. Donald Hecht, School of Business Dean Dr. George Sayegh, CalSouthern DBA graduate Dr. Sylvain Authier—Vice President of Morneau Shepell, Canada’s largest human resources firm—and other CalSouthern staff participated in the following video describing in detail the distinguishing characteristics of the fast-growing DBA program. We hope you’ll enjoy it and share it with others interested in expanding their post-graduate business education.
