California Southern University has announced that its 39th annual commencement ceremony will be held at Cheng Hall at the Irvine Barclay Theatre in Irvine, California. The ceremony will take place on Saturday, August 5, 2017, at 2:00PM.
Hundreds of graduates, friends and family members from across the country and around the world are expected to attend this year's ceremony. This years keynote address will be delivered by Sara Gilman, a licensed marriage and family therapist, specializing in the areas of traumatic stress, addictions and peak performance training with athletes and other performers. She is the owner and president of Coherence Associates, Inc. a professional counseling corporation. Sara Gilman is a soon to be graduate of CalSouthern and will be earning her Doctor of Psychology from the university's School of Behavioral Sciences.
Other highlights of the commencement ceremony include the presentation of the CalSouthern Difference Award, the Faculty Mentor of the Year Award and the President's Award for Doctoral Project Excellence.
California Southern University has named Heather Williams the recipient of the 2017 CalSouthern Difference Award, presented annually to a CalSouthern alumnus who has made a difference in his or her profession, field of study or local community through distinguished work, scholarship, innovation or service. She will be presented with the award at the university’s 2017 commencement ceremony for her work overseeing all special victim programs which include: Homicide, Sexual Assault, Gangs, and Domestic Violence. In 2003, after responding to an active shooter event in Irvine, CA she created the CSP Crisis Response Team.
