Renowned leader in higher education to address graduates at August 8 ceremony
Irvine, California—July 10, 2015—California Southern University has announced that Dr. Richard Winn will deliver the keynote address at the university’s 37th annual commencement ceremony, held on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at The Irvine Barclay Theatre in Irvine, California.
A nationally recognized authority and leader in higher education, Dr. Winn is recently retired as Senior Vice President of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) Senior College and University Commission, a regional accrediting agency serving public and private higher educational institutions throughout California, Hawaii and the Pacific. Dr. Winn played a critical role in ensuring that the Commission fulfills its mission to encourage continuous institutional improvement, assuring its membership, its constituencies and the public that accredited institutions are fulfilling their missions to their students and the public good.
Prior to joining WASC, Dr. Winn was the Associate Dean for Curriculum at Western University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine. He has also held faculty and educational leadership roles at Pacific Union College and a variety of other institutions and college systems. In addition, Dr. Winn has served three terms as a Member, Board of Examiners, for the prestigious Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, which recognizes U.S. organizations for performance excellence in the business, healthcare, education and non-profit sectors.

In addition to Dr. Winn’s keynote address, other highlights of the commencement ceremony will include the presentation of the 2015 CalSouthern Difference Award, the President’s Award for Doctoral Project Excellence and the naming of the university’s Faculty Mentor of the Year, all in addition to honoring CalSouthern’s graduating class of 2015.
