Dr. Judith McLeod, Dean of the School of School of Nursing
Dr. Judith McLeod’s passion for nursing can be traced to her youth, when she was inspired by her mother, also a nurse. Upon graduating from the nursing program at the prestigious Johns Hopkins University, Dr. McLeod embarked upon a nursing career that has spanned four decades and a wide variety of practice areas. Her areas of expertise include pediatrics, labor and delivery, neonatal intensive care, obstetrics and gynecology, surgery, occupational and physical therapy, rheumatology and gastroenterology, among others.
Dr. McLeod received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from California State University, Fullerton, and her Master of Science in Nursing from California State University, Long Beach. She returned to Johns Hopkins for her Doctor of Nursing Practice. As part of her doctoral work, Dr. McLeod developed an early screening tool for juvenile fibromyalgia, reducing the time required to identify and refer a patient to a specialist for further evaluation and treatment from approximately nine months to four to six weeks.
Dr. McLeod has also been involved in higher education for more than a decade. She has taught at the university level since 2001 and has academic leadership experience, as well, having directed nursing degree programs at the associate, bachelor’s and master’s levels.
I look forward to enriching our learners’ lives and enhancing their nursing practices, empowering them to then positively influence other nurses with the knowledge and skills they attain at CalSouthern.
