Chomnan Loth, DBA
Areas of Interest and Expertise
Dr. Loth came to the United States in 1989 as a refugee from the war-torn country of Cambodia. He became a U.S. citizen in 1999. Dr. Loth has had a deep fascination with law enforcement for as long as he can remember.
Dr. Loth was hired as a police officer for the City of Newark, California in 2002. During his time as an officer, Dr. Loth worked patrol and as a detective with the Gang Violence Suppression Task Force and the Major Crimes Task Force. While on the task force, Dr. Loth specialized in gang enforcement and investigations. Dr. Loth is a court-recognized expert in the area of gangs and has testified numerous times as an expert in the Alameda and San Mateo County Superior Courts. Dr. Loth also worked as a Field Training Officer, Defensive Tactics Instructor, Chemical Agent Instructor, Active-Shooter Instructor and as a member of the SWAT and sniper teams. Dr. Loth was promoted to police sergeant in 2011, and to lieutenant in 2014, overseeing patrol, the K9 program, the Special Enforcement Team, the Major Crimes Task Force and SWAT.
Dr. Loth earned a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Studies and a Master of Science in Emergency Services Administration (Summa Cum Laude) from California State University, Long Beach. In 2014, Dr. Loth earned his Doctor of Business Administration (Magna Cum Laude) degree from California Southern University. Dr. Loth is a member of the following associations: Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, California Peace Officers’ Association, Peace Officers Research Association of California, California Association of Tactical Officers, National Tactical Officers Association, American Sniper Association, California Gang Investigator’s Association and the California Narcotic Officers’ Association.
He enjoys spending his free time with his family, friends, going for walks and being in the outdoors. Dr. Loth also has a passion for fishing.
