Psychology master's courses in the Master of Arts in Psychology program

The following master's level courses comprise CalSouthern’s Master of Arts (MA) in Psychology degree program. In order to fulfill educational requirements for licensure at the master’s level in California – MFT and/or LPCC – all required courses must be completed. Elective options are not available for this program. For licensure requirements in other states, please contact your applicable state board.

MFT 86507 Human Sexuality

Credits : 1

This course introduces the fundamentals of sexuality and sex therapy required to work as a marriage or relationship therapist. The focus of study includes a survey of the ethical and professional issues in the assessment and treatment of sexual disorders. Learners are also taught to explore the physiological-psychological and social-cultural variables associated with sexual identity, sexual behavior, and sexual disorders.

  • Evaluate and incorporate emerging relevant technologies applicable to the field of psychology.

  • Demonstrate ethical behavior in regard to emerging relevant technologies applicable to psychology
  • Understand human sexual anatomy and physiology, the sexual life cycle throughout the life span, reproduction, and sexual health.
  • Analyze differences in sexuality, sexual orientation, and gender roles.
  • Examine and analyze how cultural, religious, and political views influence sexuality
  • Apply characteristics of normal sexual behavior to identify atypical sexual behavior, common characteristics of those exhibiting it, and understand the etiology
  • Analyze components to a healthy and unhealthy relationship including coercion and sexual victimization and the effectiveness of sex therapy techniques for sexual issues.
