The faculty mentors in CalSouthern’s School of Behavioral Sciences are skilled and experienced clinicians as well as dedicated, responsive and highly credentialed educators.
They will be there for you—via phone, email or Skype—to answer any questions you may have and to help you master the course material. And, equally important, they will help you take the concepts you learn and apply them to resolve challenges commonly faced in clinical practice today.

Jennifer Bessel, PhD
Areas of Interest and Expertise
Anxiety and sport performance, eating disorders in athletes, effects of infertility on couple relationships, coping with infertility
As a specialist in sport psychology, Dr. Bessel has worked with USA Track and Field, USA Gymnastics, and professional, amateur and Olympic athletes. She also has expertise working with disordered eating and infertility issues. Dr. Bessel has written book chapters on disordered eating in athletes and mental preparation for the 800 meters in track and field.
Dr. Bessel has a private practice in Irvine, CA and had a practice in San Diego, CA since 2000. Her mind-body approach includes the use of hypnosis, meditation and MBSR in her clinical work. She uses the Gottman Approach when working with couples. Dr. Bessel also has provided clinical supervision at multiple clinical training sites.
Dr. Bessel is a runner, yoga practitioner and meditator. She spends time with her husband and son and enjoys outdoor activities, reading and cooking.
