The faculty mentors in CalSouthern’s School of Behavioral Sciences are skilled and experienced clinicians as well as dedicated, responsive and highly credentialed educators.

They will be there for you—via phone, email or Skype—to answer any questions you may have and to help you master the course material. And, equally important, they will help you take the concepts you learn and apply them to resolve challenges commonly faced in clinical practice today.

Patricia Mann, PsyD

Dr. Mann returned to school in mid-life to pursue both a master’s and doctoral degree in psychology. She has worked as a therapist in several clinical settings, counseling adults, young children, families and groups including teen mothers, and boys released from juvenile hall that were on probation. Her experience also includes facilitating court-ordered batterers’ treatment groups for individuals convicted of domestic violence. She has provided psychological assessments for the CA Youth and Family Resource Center in Anaheim, which serves youth who are repeat offenders.

Dr. Mann has also served as a therapist and provided psychological assessments at Western Youth Services in Anaheim and in San Juan Capistrano, CA. The populations that were served included diverse ethnicities of children, adolescents, adults and families in individual and family therapy. Patients were seen as a result of experiencing trauma, abuse, abandonment, or school difficulties. Common diagnoses ranged from anxiety, depression, oppositional defiant disorder, ADHD, post-traumatic stress disorder, and attachment disorders through psychotic disorders.

Her doctoral dissertation is titled “An Integration of Cognitive Behavioral and Psychodynamic Models: An Analysis of the Relationship Between Parenting, Schema Development and Coping Strategies.” It explores the process by which children develop early maladaptive beliefs and coping strategies that often lead to psychopathology in response to impaired parenting.
