Originally from Kenya’s capital city of Nairobi, Omari Gekombe began his academic journey with CalSouthern in 2016. His experience was incredibly rewarding personally, but it came with its share of adversities.
Omari already had degrees in automotive technology, applied sciences, and management, and was looking to expand his academic portfolio with a Doctorate in Business Administration from CalSouthern. With an exhaustive professional schedule, Omari sought out a doctoral program that would offer exceptional counseling and support, along with affordable tuition rates.
“The program definitely met my expectations, was intellectually stimulating, and was flexible enough to meet the demands of my current full-time job,” Omari stated.
Non-collegiate work started at 3 am for Omari, and once he was finally home, he would work diligently throughout the remainder of the day and into the evening to complete the many ongoing projects required for his program. Omari said that several times he had considered quitting due to the rigorous nature of the process. It took three years, two classes at a time, for him to complete his DBA. In 2019, Omari graduated with his sights set on teaching in Kenya.
As Omari embarks on the next chapter of his life, he imparted words of advice for those seeking to better themselves through higher education and said, “Education isn’t for employment, it’s a lifetime investment. It’s not something anyone can take from you. If you invest in yourself, it will pay off in the long run.”
